Netflix cracks Time's top 50
August 31, 2009
Time magazine likes Netflix's Web site. Blockbuster? Eh.
Netflix came in at #21 in Time's list of 50 Best Websites of 2009. The list, as pointed out by blog HackingNetflix, also included Hulu, Amazon.com and, of course, YouTube.
"If you have a DVD player, odds are you already know about Netflix's excellent movies-by-mail service," Time wrote. "Netflix is morphing into a similarly excellent streaming-video service."
Meanwhile, Google's YouTube, by far the most popular online-video site, came it at #12, while long-form video site was #14 and Amazon, the world's largest Internet retailer, clocked in at #19, Time said.
Neither Blockbuster, which is taking on Netflix in the digital-delivery field, nor Roxio CinemaNow, which is owned by Sonic Solutions, made Time's top 50.
