Blockbuster.com updates its site

September 1, 2009 UPDATE: The redesigned site is back up.

Don't look now because their site is offline, but Blockbuster.com unveiled a redesigned site today, announced with a Tweet. I took a quick look this morning and it seems to be less clunky than before. Also, there seem to be more movie listings on each page with tabs for renting or buying.  I'd give you more details, but again, the site's down right now. No word yet from a spokesman I emailed on why or when it'll be back online...

Looks like they've put the focus on movies and TV shows more than on format, which makes a lot of sense since they're offering films in so many different formats these days. Movie downloads seem to be more integrated throughout the site, rather than exclusively on a separate download page. There are also movie theater listings on every page.
They've also got this new "Blockbuster Browse feature" that pulls up movie box art in a window that users can click around in, almost like browsing video shelves, if those shelves were in space. It's a handy way to glance at a group of releases, though there seem to be some kinks right now - when I clicked the "mystery and suspense" genre, it said there were no results.

Overall, looks like a much smoother site.
