HD DVD petitioners up to 7,000 signatures
April 18, 2007

HD Now, the group of HD DVD users petitioning Blu-ray studios to support both formats, has gathered 7,000 signatures it's sending to Blu-ray studios. No studio has yet publicly responded to them, organizer Edward Downer told me, but their campaign continues.

Downer said Warner, which is releasing movies on both formats, has been responsive to feedback. "I think everyone's respect for Warner is very high due to how they handled it," he said.

Warner's decision to release on both formats has benefited it in sales as well. According to a recent sales report, the studio had a 32% share of the high def market, well above its home video market share, which tends to hover around the 20% range.
