No Raw Deal on Raw Feed's Alien Raiders
February 11, 2009
The sci-fi shocker Alien Raiders (street: Feb. 17), the latest title from Warner’s Raw Feed imprint, was shot in just over two weeks, which translated into “learning a hard lesson 50 times a day,” according to the film’s director, Ben Rock.
“There were no do-overs, no re-shoots, nothing like that,” Rock told VB in an interview earlier this week. “I knew when I was brought on to the project that it would be like that. You really have to move when it’s such a
tight schedule.”
“Your never going to find a filmmaker in history who’s gonna say they had enough time to make a movie,” he added, laughing.
Alien Raiders is a high-concept genre picture about aliens invading a small Western market. Over the course of the movie, the market is overrun by extraterrestrial baddies, alien hunters, psychics, cops thieves and shoppers. The question for everyone (including viewers) is just exactly who’s who?
Rock was pleased to “bring my game up to where it should be” when it came to the small budget and short shooting schedule. And he only has positive things to say about He is even happier about his overall experiences with the Raw Feed division.
“Warner supports the hell out of the Raw Feed films, but they don’t interfere,” Rock said. They were watching my dailies and all that, but Warner lets the Raw Feed guys make the movies they want to make. And that’s pretty good.”
