PS3 Slim: If You Make It Up, Maybe Sony Will Listen?
August 13, 2009
The lower-cost PS3 rumors are heating up....(have they ever cooled down???)....and the next wave centers around a $299 version, dubbed the PS3 Slim. This one would hold a Blu-ray player, just like the currently available $399 PS3. The possibility of a PS3 Slim sounds totally believable to me, as most everyone expects Sony to offer a cheaper PS3 in time for the holidays.
There are even supposed sneak peek retail ads flying around, intending to prove the existence of this PS3 Slim product.
Gizmodo.com has been painstakingly gathering the various examples. In a maybe K-Mart ad, the spot mentions a 120 GB $299 PS3 Slim. One over at Best Buy though calls it a 160 GB product.
Gizmodo.com wonders if this is all the work of clever fanboys just having some fun with us with their own creations. The site does poke a lot of holes in the ads, and thinks many are fakes.
Maybe I'm one of those glass half-full types, but I sometimes think that where there's smoke, there's at least a little bit of fire. Maybe no one has the details exactly right, but it does feel like we'll get some cheaper PS3 soon. What do you guys think?
