Summer Slows, Blu Benefits
August 27, 2008

Perhaps Blu-ray just got lucky in the current no-man's media land - the Oympics are done and the hottest summer theatrical films have already premiered - but Best Buy devoted a lot of space to the format for its Aug. 24-Aug. 30 weekly ad.
Since Best Buy can't promote around something with a pedigree like The Dark Knight, it looks like last week's Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds DVD/Blu-ray release will have to do. The title gets a nice mention alongside a picture of Panasonic's DMP-BD30 model.
The season two release of Heroes on DVD/Blu-ray (out Aug. 26) scores four pictures in the ad, helping to promote Samsung's higher-end BDP-2550 Blu-ray model. I totally get that the first season of Heroes would get multiple nods...but not so sure about the annoying character-filled second season.
Vantage Point, which was released on DVD and Blu-ray about two months ago on July 1, somehow scored six separate ad pictures, helping hype Samsung, Sony and Mitsubishi high-def TVs, and Sony's latest BDP-S350 Blu-ray set-top.
September should bring some excitement with new TV seasons launching...so Blu should enjoy the dog days of summer while they last!

I was in between Netflix shipments, and was in the mood for a movie, so I headed down to the Hollywood Video by ASU. They're running a special on free Blu-ray movie rentals. The only catch is, one free rental at a time. Not all locations are participating in the promo, but it's worth checking out.

Cool - thanks for the tip! I will definitely look into that.
