Major Paper Gives Blu Love For Once
December 5, 2008
USA Today features two Blu-ray stories today: one recommends the best Blu-ray catalog titles and another provides advice on how to buy a Blu-ray player.
This much generally positive coverage of the format is in stark contrast to a lot of stories I have been seeing of late. Due to the crumbling economy, various reports proclaimed that people were unlikely to adopt Blu-ray because they wouldn't be able to afford it. For example, The New York Times, our sister publication Variety and other major showbiz trade Hollywood Reporter have all written up stories about Blu-ray underperforming.
At a time when the economy has gotten even worse since these three stories have been published, here comes USA Today with something mostly positive. I don't really know what's driving the USA Today stories, but the paper seems to be writing just on the quality of Blu-ray technology alone...and forgetting about the economy factor for a second. Every product in America is affected by the economy, and part of me thought it was unfair that certain publications were choosing to dump on Blu-ray because of it. You could pick anything in your home or office and it probably faces some sales declines in this current recession.
But enought ranting! I think I'm getting overloaded by the bad financial news reports, and saw the USA Today coverage as a helpful break.
