Just Get Me HD Downloads Already
February 8, 2008
The industrious folks over at Endgadget have put together a poll asking people how willing they are to leave standard definition behind. The most popular answer, corralling a little over 40% of repspondents, is that DVD is fine by them and they are just waiting around for HD downloads. Granted, people that regularly read Endgadget are some of your most tech-savvy around, and are more likely to explore emerging media like digital downloads than your regular Joes. But I think that these early adopters, if they are true tech geeks, should be persuaded to want to do a little bit of both - download high-def content for immediate gratification, but then have that BD and/or HD DVD player to collect favorite films on a shelf that you can watch over and over again. Maybe the studios could host a chat on some of these hard core tech sites?? Just a thought! But definitely give me some better suggestions to win techies over to a physical high-def format.
The next most popular pick, at around 36%, was that people would stick to DVD until there was a clear victor for Blu-ray or HD DVD. A likely victor has evolved with Blu-ray thanks to Warner, so that chunk of people could very well jump off the high-def sidelines soon
