Samsung Dual Format Door Buster

It's never too late to join in the holiday discounting fun. Samsung appears to have slashed $200 off the original pricing for its new dual format player to $799. Originally at $999, the BD-UP5000 launch is slated for shelves this month. Samsung had to have felt pressure to dock the player's price tag to match current retail costs for individual Blu-ray and HD DVD players. If you buy a $399 BD-capable PS3 and a $299 HD A3, that's just $698. It's hard to argue, then, why someone would want to buy a dual format player that costs too much over that amount. Yet different from the PS3, at least as it stands today, the Samsung BD-UP5000 will be able to fully playback picture-in-picture via an expected firmware upgrade in January.
