Set-Top Summer Sale
July 1, 2008

Circuit City has placed all of its Blu-ray set-tops on sale this week, spanning models from Sony, Philips, Samsung, Sharp and Panasonic. Depending on the player, savings vary between $20 to $50. But in all cases, the models are selling below the $399 mark, which has been the going average for some time.
Set-tops do need some promoting these days, since they are running a distant second to Playstation 3, which offers a gaming system and a Blu-ray player for the same $399 tag.
Most of Circuit City's sale-priced set-tops represent last year's models. Panasonic and Sony will be launching their first BD-Live enabled Blu-ray players in the next several weeks.
However, Circuit City is offering $20 off Samsung's just launched model, the BDP-1500. Priced at $379, this player will be upgradeable to BD-Live status by this fall, Samsung executives have promised.
