PS3's Xbox 360 Beat Down
March 14, 2008

Maybe two months doesn't mean a trend, but people are taking note of PS3's two straight sales victories over the Xbox 360, according to NPD Group January and February results.
Neither PS3 nor Xbox 360 can catch the wascally Wii, which has been an ongoing next generation console leader for many months now. But the buzz is that PS3's built-in BD player is increasingly looking like a smart move, especially now that the format war is over. Now more than ever, PS3 is a great, relatively affordable way to enjoy high-definition movies. At $399, It's priced the same as most BD standalones, and hey, you can even play Rock Band (my admitted current obsession) on the system.
You have to wonder what Xbox 360 will do if they feel the need to get back into the game. Sony execs have spoken to Microsoft folks about enhancing the Xbox 360 with BD ability. But that idea seems far-fetched to some, including our own Paul Sweeting, editor of sister site ContentAgenda.com
I'll wager that Xbox might do some price cutting - to further stress one of its key competitive advantages over the PS3. Or it could just continue to offer some great Xbox Live exclusive content, something that PS3 users wouldn't be able to touch.
We might even see Xbox 360 and PS3 both come out great for the year, and together eventually take down the Wii. Xbox handily beats Wii on game selection awesomeness. And then PS3 is the only one with a built-in BD player. A lot of people might just feel they need to have both an Xbox 360 and PS3 at home.
