Retailers Finally Start Value-Adding Blu
May 20, 2008

Best Buy, Target and Circuit City are among those offering $10 back with the purchase both Blu-ray versions of National Treasure 1 and National Treasure 2. There is no similar value-add with the purcase of the standard DVD editions of the titles.
Disney bowed the Blu-ray and standard versions of National Treasure 2 today, as well as the original film on BD.
I agree that a $10 is not jump-up-and-down deal in the larger scheme of having to shell out about $60 to purchase National Treasure 1 and 2 on Blu-ray. But it's unique that these stores are providing anything extra at all for Blu-ray.
In the past, stores have offered a special something for the standard DVD version only. For example, there were the exclusive tote bags and T-shirts attached to the standard DVDs of The Water Horse and Walk Hard , respectively, at Best Buy. The same merchandise extras did not apply if you bought these titles' Blu-ray versions.
Hopefully the Blu exclusives will spread to more releases down the road. Everyone likes to get free stuff - even Blu-ray adopters who pay a premium for their movies.

The one thing to note is that with the first week bargains, most people will only have to pay between $40 (Fry's & Amazon) or $50 (BB, CC and others. This actually brings the discs in line with the DVD's.
