You Know You've Always Wanted a Blu-ray Coffee Table
May 21, 2008

Seriously, though, here really comes the Blu-ray coffee table.
A company that specializes in building old-school arcade tables, RetroTech, is promising its latest product will let you play around with a touch screen computer and Blu-ray drive from the comfort of your couch. There is a wireless keyboard that complements the 19-inch LCD screen. The table top is covered with hardened glass, to presumably protect it from food and drink spills.
Gizmodo thinks this all sounds a little too good to be true, and I think I have to agree. The site wonders how touch screen technology can actually work if there's 'hardened glass' encasing it.
As for me, I would get terrible neck spasms having to watch Blu-ray films on a screen that lays horizontally flat. And where do I put my popcorn when I'm watching Batman Begins on Blu-ray? Certainly not on the Blu-ray coffee table, since it'll cover up my view of Christian Bale.
There isn't a price yet listed for RetroTech's product. But I doubt I will be wooed over by its cost. Computer, BD-drive, touch screen - that all can't come cheap.
