American Shopper (street Nov. 18, prebook now; DVD $24.95) documents the creation and practice of a fictional new sport called aisling, in which supermarket shoppers compete in contests that take place in supermarket aisles with food on the shelves but are more about creativity than shopping.
The contestants are real and their true stories are documented, but the host is fictional. The contestants are aware of that fact.
The film was made at a Schnucks supermarket in Columbia, Mo., where a group of Missourians from different walks of life entered as contestants.
Having played the film-festival circuit, then premiered at the Ragtag Cinema in Columbia, the movie will be carried on DVD in such places as Schnucks grocery stores throughout the Midwest.
