October 5, 2009
Another blockbuster theatrical title has been slated into the fourth-quarter schedule. Paramount will put G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra on DVD and Blu-ray on Nov. 3 (order now).
The $147.4 million-grossing movie will be Paramount's second title featuring augmented reality on the box. The feature first will be released on Transformers 2 on Oct. 20, then on Star Trek on Nov. 17.
With Joe, fans who buy the two-DVD and Blu-ray versions will be able to play a 3D videogame with the augmented reality feature. Using their Webcams, the disc box and a special Web site, fans will be able to battle their enemies by playing either Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow.
Those two versions will be priced at $24.99 and $29.99, respectively. A single-DVD version also will be released, priced at $19.99.
All three versions will include commentary by director Stephen Sommers and producer Bob Ducsay.
The two-DVD and Blu-ray versions, as well as augmented reality, will offer digital copy and two featurettes: "The Big Bang Theory: The Making of G.I. Joe" and "Next-Gen Action: The Amazing Visual FX and Design of G.I. Joe."
