Assassination of Jesse James, Bonnie & Clyde
December 3, 2007
Historical figures are the subject of a number of releases due in the first quarter.
Warner will release The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford on Feb. 5 (prebook Jan. 2; DVD $27.95). The movie starring Brad Pitt and Casey Affleck grossed $3.7 million in limited release.
Other than the cast (Pitt on the cover is usually good for a few DVD sales), Jesse James has a lot going for it. Look at what Variety said about the film: "A ravishing, magisterial, poetic epic that moves its characters toward their tragic destinies with all the implacability of a Greek drama, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is one of the best westerns of the '70s, which represents the highest possible praise." (Read the full review.) Indeed.
Then on March 25 (prebook Feb. 5), Warner will deliver a new version of Warren Beatty’s and Faye Dunaway’s turn as Bonnie and Clyde. The Bonny and Clyde Two-Disc Special Edition ($20.97) will include a History Channel documentary on the bank-robbing couple, Beatty’s wardrobe tests and additional scenes. The set also will be in an Ultimate Collector’s Edition ($39.92) with a 36-page hardcover book of rare behind-the-scenes photos and a reproduction of the 1967 press book.
Bonny and Clyde also will debut on HD DVD and Blu-ray the same day, priced at $28.99 each.
