The Hangover DVD, Blu-ray
September 23, 2009
Who would have guessed a movie about three groomsmen who lose the groom during a Las Vegas bachelor party -- with no sign of Will Smith, Tom Cruise or Julia Roberts -- would make $276 million at the box office?
Although I'm sure director Todd Phillips had high hopes, I doubt he would have predicted it. His highest-grossing movie before The Hangover was Starsky & Hutch ($88 million), then Old School ($75 million). Warner says The Hangover is "the biggest R-rated comedy ever." Not bad.
It'll no doubt The Hangover will make more money when it bows on DVD and Blu-ray Dec. 15. It's main competition that day will be Disney's G-Force -- totally different audience.
Warner is pricing The Hangover (prebook Oct. 27) only $1 apart on DVD (two-disc set $34.99) and Blu-ray ($35.99), no doubt to encourage fans to upgrade to high-def.
Both versions will include the theatrical and unrated versions of the movie, as well as photos from the "missing camera," a gag reel and outtakes and "Ken Jeony's Nonstop Hilarious Improv."
The Blu-ray also will have Mike Tyson doing "In the Air Tonight," the featurette "Cursing Mash-Up" with all the cursing from the film and BD Live.
