GoogleTV fake, but really popular
January 30, 2007
Apparently, people really like the Google. Two mock instructional clips on YouTube showing how to access a supposed beta version of GoogleTV have drawn several hundred thousand viewers since Friday and rank among the top-viewed viral videos. The first clip claims to show how to get an invite to watch free TV through a beta version of the service, which purportedly offers TV shows from three networks - NBC, CBS and Fox - with embedded ads. The second clip then takes on claims that the first is a hoax and tries to prove Google TV is real by having guide Mark Erickson log on and pull up an episode of Heroes.
I have Gmail and tried to check it out, following instructions in the first video just in case there was any truth to it (I mean, it's not unreasonable to think Google would be planning to expand its video offerings.) But, I couldn't find any offer for a beta version and apparently others found the supposed web addresses for GoogleTV don't match. Still, a lot of bloggers and YouTube commenters seem to be wishing it were real.
