Betsy Rue's Bloody, Naked Valentine, Pt. II

April 29, 2009

When we last checked in with Betsy Rue, she was beginning to tell us the ins and outs of filming her already-classic sex/murder scene in Lionsgate’s upcoming My Bloody Valentine 3D (Street: May 19).

VB: Okay, so everything was approved by Lionsgate and you were hired to make the movie, which is highlighted, of course, by the already classic scene where you’re fully naked, armed with a gun and being chased across a hotel parking lot by the killer. Tell us about that sequence.
RUE: Well, let me first say that the nudity quota was fulfilled by the end of the sex scene, so I didn’t have to do the chase while I was naked. Originally, I was supposed to grab the sheets and wrap them around me before the killer comes on and chases me outside. But it didn’t look good. And I was the one was saying ‘that it doesn’t feel right.’ So I just said, ‘let’s forget about the sheets, I’m just going for it.’

VB: So, you’re the one who inspired all the additional nudity! Good instincts…

RUE: I think it really did make sense.
VB: How long did it take to shoot?

RUE: I was naked for three days and, yes, there was a full crew there the whole time. But I’m not pretentious about that kind of stuff. I just thought I’d put my balls to the wall for the scene

VB: Well, it obviously made a helluva big impression on the critics and fans based on what we’re reading on the web.
RUE: I had no idea that the scene was going to be so great. At first, I thought people were gonna think I’m the biggest slut, but I haven’t had any bad publicity from it. And I was so blown away by the 3D!

VB: So were we! It’s a pleasure to see more than just blood and body parts and axes flying off the screen and at our faces. And we have you to thank for that!

RUE: You’re welcome!
VB: So, what’s next for Betsy Rue?

RUE: My Bloody Valentine opened a lot of doors for me and I’ve been getting some offers for other horror movies, which are a possibility. I love horror movies and it’s just so ironic that this is the one that became huge to me, but my passion is comedy. I’ve got to clear to everyone that I wasn’t just a nude girl running around the screen!

VB: Well, there are worse things….
