Warner Commits to Blu-ray Lord of the Rings
October 2, 2008

Nah, the studio doesn't give an exact release date. But Warner is promoting an upcoming Blu-ray bow of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring in marketing material packed into its Oct. 14 Blu-ray Poltergeist release.
In the promotional booklet, Warner name drops several 'Coming Soon' Blu-ray titles, also including Amadeus, The Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind.
Although Wizard of Oz and Gone with the Wind are cinematic classics, I say LOTR will generate the most Blu-ray bite. There is just so much sweeping action: bow and arrows! creepy Gollum! Sorcerers!
If Warner puts out this first LOTR installment, they'll have to put out the whole series as well - or risk serious hatred from the film's intense fan base.
Others that have discovered Warner's LOTR's shout-out inside Poltergeist seem thrilled. You can check out comments here at the AVSForum.

Blu-ray will never succeed said the HD DVD fan boy while staring at their near useless HD-A1 knowing it will never know the HD goodness of LOTR. HA HA
