Format War Goes Primetime
February 20, 2008

It was fun seeing how, or even if, the major networks would cover HD DVD conceding defeat in the high-definition format war. I mean, for us, it's like we all gave birth on Tuesday. After this monstrous struggle, there's this beautiful, clarified thing called Blu-ray that has emerged.  And gosh darn it, it will grow up to be famous like its standard DVD Dad. But seriously, I was hoping some of the primetime news coverage would give us some love, and they did. Here is the story that I caught on CBS Nightly News - I bet there were others, as well. Hopefully, the CBS' of the world will continue to check in on high-def as the story is really far from over. It'll be interesting to see if Playstation 3 sales jump because of Toshiba bowing out? Or how much the studios may start changing their title marketing to stress Blu-ray over standard-definition. Maybe it's not out of the question to see Warner's upcoming Batman installment The Dark Knight be advertised first as coming in Blu-ray. And then in the following phrase, 'Additionally available on standard DVD.' At the moment, as the format war dust settles, studios are marketing titles the other way around. Well, I will be staying tune to high-definition in the coming weeks.
