Maybe We Can Just Get Along
December 20, 2007
It's a total stretch for me to attach any high-def significance to this. But who cares! We could all use a warm and fuzzy story to help wrap up the year. Unusual bedfellows Samsung, Microsoft and Disney, are all teaming up to donate $2 milion worth of technology to various schools.
Blu-ray friendly Samsung will be donating plasma and LCD high-def TV sets, smart phones, digital camcorders and DVD players (though which format - standard, Blu or dual - isn't specified). HD DVD-backing Microsoft will be unloading free software onto students, including Microsoft Office and Encarta.
The products will be split among winners of an essay contest run through Samsung philanthropy organization Hope For Education. This group has donated over $7 million in Samsung and Microsoft products to various U.S. schools since 2004.
Disney recording artists Aly & AJ will be personally presenting $200,000 in Samsung and Microsoft items to Woodlake Elementary School, which was severely damaged during Hurricane Katrina.
Now if we could somehow impart this getting-along message to other BD or HD DVD campers, maybe we could end this format war already!
