Target Hits Bulls Eye On PS3 Ad
May 15, 2008
Target has never devoted loads and loads of space to BD titles. And heck, it only carries the one Sony player in its store. But in this week's circular, Target has done one of the best jobs I've seen in drilling it home for folks that the PS3 does indeed play games and BD titles.
On page 20, Target features a PS3 with the message 'Built-In Blu-ray' stamped across it. Not once, but twice. It's something so simple and perfect to nudge BD adoption, but I don't recall seeing any other retailer advertising a PS3 with that same message included.
To top it off, Target stacks five video games on one side of the machine, pluse five BD titles on the other side. There even is a hint that it can be cheaper having fun with BD over video games on your PS3 - Target's games are listed at $49.99 to the BD titles at $24.99. BD titles span the studios, including Sony's 30 Days of Night, Warner's 300 and Fox's Hitman.
The whole ad is framed by the banner 'PS3 Blu-ray Player Does It All' - There's your commercial slogan, people.
I think it's important to come up with more and more creative marketing strategies to boost BD adoption.
All the recent research has been indicating that people are not yet entirely motivated to go Blu.
Hopefully, more retailers will follow Target's lead in really cheerleading the fact that the PS3 plays BD titles too.
