Elton John Blu-ray Only at Best Buy
September 22, 2008
Best Buy is offering another Elton John exclusive: Blu-ray, standard-def DVD, and vinyl releases of his Las Vegas concert performances The Red Piano on Oct. 28.
According to the press releases, people can pre-order the titles now at Best Buy's site but beware that the link wasn't up and running by about 11 a.m. pacific time Monday. The Blu-ray and DVD sets cover 14 song performances, as well as include a documentary about the making of The Red Piano Vegas show. Each of the title versions carries two CDs as well.
This release follows Best Buy's 2004 John DVD exclusive Dream Ticket.
Best Buy is timing Red Piano to John's return to Vegas, where he'll perform at Caesar's Palace between Oct. 22 and Nov. 9 and between Feb. 3 and April 22.
Blu-ray music discs are still a small, niche business. But Best Buy granting Red Piano an exclusive will likely be a boost to the format. Typically, Best Buy exclusives are usually wrapped up in a lot of splashy advertising and promotion.
Best Buy entertainment exec Gary Arnold seems keen on the project, explaining, "After seeing that Elton had created 'The Red Piano,' we wanted to help the show get to all of Elton's fans who might not have had the chance to see the show live or who want to see it again from the best seat in the house."
