KROQ Radio Station Tunes in Blu-ray
September 19, 2008

Blu-ray fans should be tickled to know that popular Los Angeles rock radio station, KROQ, is incorporating  Blu-ray discs into its prize giveaways. This Friday morning, a listener who correctly identified the name of the notorious virus from TV's Heroes won season one and two of the series on Blu-ray.
Let's just hope the winner owns a Blu-ray player already. But even if she doesn't, you'd think a true Heroes fan would go out an purchase one in order to watch her prize. For those curious, the name of the disease agent on Heroes is the Shanti virus.
I was surprised that the award presenter, Ralph Garman from KROQ's 'Kevin and Bean' morning show, didn't go into an explanation about what Blu-ray is for its audience.
But maybe that's a good thing - Blu-ray is becoming such a recognized brand that no elaboration is necessary? Or it could be as simple as Garman didn't want to waste time on boring technical jargon when the show is all about fun and comedy.
