Taking Woodstock DVD, Blu-ray
October 14, 2009
Despite lots of advertising and timed to the 40th anniversary of one of the best-known concerts -- if not THE best known -- in U.S. history, Taking Woodstock grossed only $7.4 million in theaters. Still, Universal must be confident about its performance in the home market. The studio has slated the movie for release on DVD and Blu-ray on Dec. 15 (prebook Oct. 27), maybe hoping consumers coming in to buy G-Force or The Hangover will also pony up for Woodstock.
The movie, about a man who offers his parents' motel as a location for an event and gets more than he bargained for, was directed by Brokeback Mountain's Ang Lee and stars Emile Hirsch. It's based on the book by Elliot Tiber.
The movie will carry Universal's usual pricing: $29.98 for DVD and $39.98 for Blu-ray.
Bonuses include deleted scenes and commentary with Lee and producer/writer James Schamus.
Universal also promises special Blu-ray extras, but hasn't detailed those yet.
