Unbox says "expect more"
April 7, 2008
In an interview with The New York Times, Amazon's Steve Kessel, who oversees digital, including movie download service Unbox, said Unbox is still in "very early days" and said to expect "a lot of innovation to come from us in this business."
I can believe it. With its TiVo deal, Amazon has taken downloads to the TV, and I gotta say, it works great. My husband and I are currently trying out the first 15 episodes of HBO's In Treatment, which Unbox was offering as a free download. The shows downloaded to our TiVo within 30 minutes of me ordering them on my PC, and they look quite impressive for a download, a lot better than I thought they would. We have a high-def 45-inch TV, and the downloads don't fill the screen, but it's a big enough picture and the sound is great.
NY Times said Amazon's execs were tight-lipped about future offerings, but I wouldn't be surprised if we do see some really interesting things come from them.
