Vote for the Next Blu Criterion
May 8, 2009
Amazon.com is giving Criterion Collection fans an important voice, giving them the
chance to choose the next Blu-ray title that the popular art house label releases.
Among those in the running for Blu-ray bows are
Howards End,
Au Revoir Les Enfants,
Down By Law,
Kwaidan and
Picnic at Hanging Rock. People need to make their picks by May 25 for their votes to count. The winning title will be released on Blu-ray later in 2009.
Amazon.com has also listed plenty of film clips to to help people make their decisions.
At the same time, Amazon.com is offering
a sale on many Criterion Collection titles.
I wish the studios would offer up this kind of vote for its own catalog Blu-ray releases. Sometimes I totally get why this or that film was granted a Blu-ray berth. But other times, especially with some of these older no-action romantic comedies, I'm not so sure. I'll admit that
Roxanne is one of my favorite movies of all time, but I'm not convinced that watching it in Blu-ray will heighten my experience. It streeted on Blu-ray this past Tuesday. But I would love getting some more animation in Blu-ray - the format seems to make that genre all nice and shiny. I'm sure you guys have a thing or two to say to the studios as well!
