I Think I Love My Wife DVD
May 23, 2007
Fox will bring I Think I Love My Wife to store aisles on Aug. 7 (prebook July 11) after a dismal performance in theaters.
Other than starring Chris Rock, comedy is a hard sell. Here's the press release's description: "the hilarious comedy stars funny man Chris Rock (The Longest Yard, Head of State) as a man with everything, including the perfect marriage - but despite having it all, he is bored out of his suburban mind and can’t help but fantasize about having nearly ever woman he sees." So where's the story?
I Think I Love My Wife grossed $12.5 million, but its reviews were lacking. Variety's Brian Lowry said, "Anyone expecting the wild-and-crazy, stage-prowling Chris Rock will be disappointed by the comic's latest cinematic foray as writer-producer-helmer-star, which hews toward more dramatic territory with only intermittent moments of levity." And on Rotten Tomatoes Critics Tomatometer has the movie at 18%.
The DVD ($29.98), however, should fare better. Rock does have a substantial fan base, and they're likely to be willing to check out his latest movie for the price of a rental or discounted new release DVD.
Rock provides a commentary, which also should be attractive to fans. Maybe it'll be like his stand-up.
The other special features are deleted scenes, a blooper reel, behind-the-scenes featurettes and a music video.
